A young white boy is separated from his family i think it took place during a war because i remember something about a bomb canon bomb or something. They were in the middle of the ocean when they got separated and the boy was rescued by a black man. He said it was an awesome book.

Im pretty sure the boy became blind becuse of the same reason he s stranded on an island but im not sure. He had read it in school many years ago. The eleven year old protagonist sounds and feels real.
